Once your unwanted materials enter MIRA’s Connecticut Solid Waste System, it goes to one of two facilities:
 | Materials that have been collected for recycling go to MIRA’s Single Stream recycling facility. For years, MIRAs facilities have striven to improve relations with our neighbors through innovative odor elimination technologies, state of the art emissions controls and other initiatives. In 2019, MIRA's recycling facility shipped more than 230 tons of aluminum to manufacturers. Using that recycled aluminum to make new products (as opposed to mining and processing bauxite ore to do so), saves the energy equivalent of about 292,000 gallons of gasoline - enough to drive a 40mpg hybrid car round-trip from Hartford to Los Angeles and back more than 2,000 times.
MIRA's Resource Recovery Facility provides enough electricity to the grid to power more than 35,000 homes.
